How to join wires together in switch back box

I've installed the wiring for a conservatory light, and it's now been plastered over: Socket spur -> FCU -> single light switch -> rose in the conservatory apex.

At the light switch I've cut the cable and left two 4 inch tails hanging out. I should have left the cable uncut so that I just switched the live.

So in order to install the switch, I need to re-join the earth and neutral. What's the best way of going about this?

In this situation I'd go for the choc block to join the neutrals. crimps are great for a permanent join but if you need to disconnect a crimp, the wire gets shorter, and shorter...

The earth should be sleeved and connected to the earth terminal on the back box.

Heatshrink? Pointless.

Just use a chock block or an insulated through crimp.

The earth will have an earth terminal on the patress or the metal back box. If the back box is metal, make sure you do connect your earths to it.

oh good grief people...

just use a double pole switch and switch both neutral and live.. then earth wires to the backbox or grid if the backbox is plastic and has no earth screw..

Plan A should have been to use a switched FCU...

The FCU is switched, but it's in an awkward position near the floor. I guess there's no reason why I couldn't use another switched FCU fitted to the light switch back box. Might look a little odd though...?
