Hi all.
I worked this clever trick out on how to plumb in a new towel rail if like me you are no plumber.

No need to drain anything, no cutting anything. no getting wet

you need two of these self tapping isolating valves.

http://www.screwfix.com/p/self-cutting-isolating-valve-15mm/59752

make sure they in the closed position and screw one to each of your existing radiator piping as close to the new site as possible.

Not one drop of water will be spilled.

to these you can screw 2 15mm to 1/2 flexi pipes which push straight onto your new plumbing, either copper or plastic.

when you have connected everything up then open the two valves. 5mins - £16 - only a screwdriver needed. No plumber called.

We'll not mention the piece of copper that is cut out of the pipe and is now
flying towards the pump or block some pipe somewhere. Not to mention
that under any real pressure this is going to leak.

No doubt plumbers are going to hate this method.
The copper remains connected to the exiting pipe.

Both parts are guaranteed to 18 Bar. What do you suggest 'real pressure' is ?

The bit of copper that gets punched NEVER stays attached to the pipe, yes it may at first but give it a couple of months and it will on it's way around the system. There's a few other problems that this may or may not cause as well. You may struggle to balance the system properly, as those valves will create quite a high resistance to flow, for example.

It's what we in the trade call a DIY Bodge. Fair enough if your happy and it works, but I wouldn't be in a hurry to advise people to do it this way

can you do a guide on hanging a towel rail true and plumb..

because i still struggle :)

Well he did say in the title who it was aimed at.

Yes thanks joe-90

No plumber will ever agree, I don't expect them to. They want to charge you for 4 hours work to drain everything solder new joints (because speedfit just doesnt work ???) refill add new inhibitor and spend a few extra hours bleeding everything.

A days graft I guessing

I did this 4 months ago now and my boiler is yet to explode and everything is well balanced. I will of course keep the post updated with my 'bodge job'

customers don't want to see speedfit all over their house.

you DO want inhibitor.

please explain why I would spend a *few hours* bleeding your radiators.

its ok you dont have to answer, I'll just watch you climb on the back of joe's horse and ride off into the sun set. ok buh bye

Can you please post a picture of your towel rail/pipework

yes we all hate speed fit under the floorboards, we much prefer your callout fees !!

Im on my horse and riding into the sunset.
