I just phoned the US today on my mobile (PAYG) for 30p per minute.

Now, I'm sure you can buy specialist SIMS that give cheaper rates, but this was an ordinary Asda SIM, piggy-backing off Voda. Not bad, considering that Voda themselves charge £1.50 per minute for the same.

£4.20 against £21.00 anyone? ;)

And the actual cost to the network would be a few pennies. And if you called a mobile number the person you called would also pay the network so they would make money from both ends.

Though granted the networks do cost a few quid to set up. But cost to run, next to nothing.

Still, imagine how much Voda (& O2 and T Mobile I guess) are making.

Criminal.

Glad to see I've helped WS66 save a few potential pennies.

I believe but might be totally wrong but doesn't the recipient of the call pay the international side of the call while the caller just pays the national part, that's how it worked when I rang my brother while he was in oz working for an F1 team

No they wouldn't - unless the reci[ient was in a country different to which the phone is registered.[/list]

In the US (see original post) you pay to receive a call on your US mobile phone. It might come out of your minutes, but you still pay. Same goes for texts.

Just picked up son at aiport.

Offered a free Lebara sim from a stand in the arrivals hall at Manchester.

Caveman said Lebara is 6ppm to USA, well now it's 5p!!

So, I'll be using that when we can't Skype. Great!

An even better saving.... how can you justify charging £1.50?
