Human rights strikes again.

I assume, joe, that's your way of disagreeing with me.
So please explain, how all things that are right must be good, and vice-versa.
And all things that are wrong must be bad, and vice-versa.

I wonder if anyone in authority has thought to ask the victim, her thoughts on returning the laptop with the photographs on, to the abuser ??

I thought I had a recollection of reading her opinion in the link.

Edit; Sorry I made a flippant response and I wouldn't want to be accused of trivialising the situation.
Enough.

That'll be one for joe to wrestle with:
The police are doing something wrong which could be considered as good.

It should be noted that this offender will not have access to the photographs anyway, for at least another five years. In which time, all manner of things may have changed.

But as Bosswhite mentions, any court action will be expensive, or the police may have to settle out of court.

Personally, I'd have thought the police would have destroyed the HDD of the laptop and replaced it with a brand new one of equal or greater value.. Being as he's getting out in 5 yrs, I would also hope they loaded Win XP as the OS.

I think it's a dangerous process that they've begun.
When is it justified to take away someone's data, without recourse to the correct judicial channels?

Round about the same time as when those judicial channels let deviants like him ask for pictures of his victim

This is simple.

Should the Police be charged with illegally deleting these pictures, all they have to do is say that they took positive action to remove them.

But the Police are breaking the Law, these are Family Photographs.

They have admitted these are not Pornographic in any way.

Yes, I agree.

However, it was a sarcastic comment relating to another thread where the renaming of a practice as positive action apparently makes something illegal, legal.

But to the perpetrator, they can bring back strong memories of the victim.. For the victim,,, put yourself in her shoes,,, Would you want the perpetrator hanging on to photographs of you?? (even though they are not pornographic)
Photos of the victim dressed in swimwear and leotards are on the computer
Ohh yes. I can well imagine him banging one out to such photos.
Nah, the police have done the right thing in my mind... If anything, it's the law that's now failing the victim. (as it so bloody often does)

The perpetrator was a family member, the victim can hardly erase that from their memory. So a few photographs will not make a lot of difference.
