When the Harbour Master at Barmouth got killed tending to moorings in the winter some years back, it was always assumed the Assistant HM would take over. What I meant was those on the left were traditionally well known for being lenient on crime, immigration, etc. Because they aren't strict it can cause the problem to grow - increasing people's fears. When I say 'traditionally', Tories have softened their stance in these areas recently and aren't much better than politicians on the left.
