Stuck in traffic today with temp lights I was under a railway bridge probably built around 1900 it was the type built in sandstone block about 18 inch long and about 9 inch high and they all appear to have drill holes in them about 2 inch wide in the centre ,at first though it was for draining purposes but even the ones above the support over ground level has them, they may be about 1 inch deep or drilled right through and clogged up.................................anyone got any ideas!!

to put a lewis in, which is a way of lifting stone (assuming they are that heavy)
