Ideal Combi Response 120 packed up

if the mains is low pressure, standard unvented won't work either you need 2 bar at 20lpm You could go OSO Dualstream it will work from 5lpm and provide hot water subject to a boiler or electrical heating.
This is an unvented system and must be installed by a competent person and registered with building control.

As far as I am aware there is no way to register with BC and the only facility to install unventeds is to have the appropriate qwualification.

Has anyone used CORGI to notify BC of unventeds?

Tony

I beg to differ Tony. I instal these cylinders each one installed after the application is submitted to BC. The plans are stamped and returned and completion notice submitted to BG after the job is completed.

The current one I am installing will be through CORGI. Up till now I have been writing directly to the local BC officer giving him all the details of the installation, address, my qualifications, type of cylinder etc. and inviting him to inspect it at his leisure!

We were given blank forms to do this when I done my un-vented course years ago as it is/was part of regs to notify them.

DP, unlike yourself I have yet to have any form of response from BC to me or the customer with regard to any of these notifications, other than I got recommende to fit one after the customer 'phoned the local council to ask for advice and installers!

As always I think it is down to the local BC whether they have time or are really interested

Yes I have

Bloody dam sight easy than having to wait ten days for no reply an all

:)

which is the way it used to have to be done

Must be G3 and inform LA at least ten days prior to fitting it, no reply= ok to fit

A joke

Well, that was a wealth of mail. I will try my best to answer them all

ChrisR - 120 btu - although I guessed that it could be the case I thought it unlikely as it is a terraced place - it was a 2 up 2 down (the sort Prescott is demolishing) but the previous owner who installed the existing boiler extended the kitchen and submitted plans to extend into the roof. (Which my daughter wants to do).
As a result there is no way of going back to a conventional system as there will be no place for a hot water cylinder and a header tank.
Not sure how to measure the water pressure but the Water Board maintains that the pressure is adequate, (no other complaints), and although the pressure used to be low it now seems ok with a really good flow from the taps.

Gasman1015 - well I have not been there yet - however, since I started asking these questions my daughter got a plumber in. She asked him to try and identify the problem and to service it (to make the job worthwhile). He failed to turn up the first time, but eventually appeared and did the service and increased the pressure but could not make the boiler light. He phoned colleagues (for advice we assume) and said that it could cost about £400 to fix. He said he would call my daughter with more precise cost of parts when he had looked them up. He has not done so yet despite my daughter leaving him 5 messages to call. She was not confident that he knew what the problem was.

John_D - OK will look at the Keston C36. I put that into Google and got some negative comments there though.

gas4you - yes it was the pressure on the guage. As I said above it does seem fine at the taps. I am not sure if a mains unvented is still a Combi type boiler. Will look at Vaillant though.

Thanks again

DO NOT BUY A KESTON C36

that would indeed be jumping from the pan into the big, hot, flamey fire

Any fault codes showing?

If you're lucky it might just be a thermistor or something easy to fix. It could give you a chance to save up for a new one.

if we are still talking about a response they dont so fault codes slug

op, mains un-vented is just a hot water cylinder that works on incoming mains pressure. As already stated you will need good pressure and flow rate to make it worthwile.

An equivalent Vaillant would be the Ecotec Plus 831, but I would suggest you hire a water pressure tester and fit it over a cold tap to test your pressure.

Yes, of course thats right Danny. I doubt that you send completion notices to BG though! I had misinterpreted what John had said as implying that there was a way for someone "to register as competent" with the BC.

They need to be notified to BC, according to the regulations that should be done in advance. However, I have only once heard of any problems in this respect and I expect the CORGI procedure is designed to notify only AFTER its been installed.
