Hi
I have a ideal icos he15 boiler
I turned all the valves off in the airing cupboard to the cylnder and rads and returns
I believe !
I changed all the rads as they were old and
Not economic
Now I opened all the valves again
Turned the boiler on
It does a set up goes to c
And burner fires up stays on
Then flashes and goes off
There is a little pressure in the rads
But just can't bleed them as not enough pressure and
The bolier goes off so no pressure
I've got water coming back
Through the hot taps but no pressure
And not hot as haven't got that far to
Check the hot water yet
Do I have to bleed something else first
Or do I increase pressure fom boiler
Somehow
It obviously not a combo system
As you can just increase the pressure
When bleeding
I'm really stuck
Can you help please
Thanks gary

Sounds like you have turned the cold feed valve off, check the valves you have turned off and make sure they are on.

Hey Paul and thanks for replying
The cold water is on and
I am getting cold water around the house
But again the pressure isn't brilliant
I've checked other forums
And the boiler is showing fault codes
It's just not staying fired up
I'm at a loss
Is there anything else you could
Suggest like is there a way if increasing
Pressure
Next to the cylnder
There is a pipe which is connected to it
And has a little valve on the top
When you take it off
It sound like air is being released
Thanks gary

Sounds like you've got yourself into a right pickle there! Possibilities are endless. You may have air locks, sheared gate valves, faulty pump, ect.....,i could go on but I won't, because you are obviously in too deep already ;) it is clear from your post that you have absolutely no understanding of what you are doing, or attempting to do so, please, with all due respect:

Do what you should have done in the first place and call an engineer asap before you cause any more damage to your system ffs.

You know this is the first time I
Have joined a forum as I am an electrical
Contractor and home theatre installer and
Also like to help as many people as possible
Especially with my knowledge
It's only now and again you come across
A person that has a bigger ego
Than probably genuine talent
This seems to be a forum of help
And understanding
Which is what I subscribe to
Not a forum for obnoxious fools
Unfortunately I just experienced
One
If anyone can genuinely help
Please letme know
Thanks

Yes i'll help you !!!!!!!

Ok so the hot water issue is more then likely just an air lock. If you have a mixer tap on the bath then hold your hand over the spout to block it off, open the hot tap fully then open the cold and force the water back through the hot pipes. Keep your hand over the spout for ten seconds or so then close the cold tap off but leave the hot open. Move your hand away and you should get a splurge or two then hopefully have cleared the air lock. If not just keep repeating until its sorted.

Central heating issue is again just air locks in the system which is very common in these ideal heat only boilers !! The boiler is just turning on and off due to overheating caused by the airlocks in the system. Bleed the rads from lower level first working up. The valve you talk about next to the cylinder is a manual bleed valve for the cylinder circs, this also needs opening until water appears. This is a very slow process and its common, unless you back fill the system, for a full day or two to pass before the system is air free and the system is back functioning correctly.

One thing I would add is that you need hot water and heating demand turned on so that the three way valve or two way valves are open to allow full system flow.

good luck

Thankyou
For the last post
A lot of what you have said seems to make
Sense
A genuine knowledgable tradesman
I will try these and see how how I go
It is much appreciated
Thanks again
Gary

Hi shray
Great hot and cold water running
At good pressure
Not tried heating the hot water yet
I bled furthest radiator with boiler on
And burner on, burner stayed on for 1 minute
Allowing me to completely bleed
That one
As soon as boiler went off there is no
Pressure in other rads so no air coming
Out
I put hot water and heating on
And could see the pump on and running
And when on the cylnder pipe valve
Is releasing lots of air left on for an
Hour but no water yet.
When pump off obviously there is no
Air release from valve
Do I need to just leave on until water comes
Out of valve and will that give me
The pressure I need to bleed the rads
As boiler is not staying on ?
Thanks again Gary

Yeah basically just leave heating and hot water on and keep bleeding the rads and the manual air vent. Just a quick check though, when you open the manual air vent just check that air is actually being vented and its not sucking air back into the system.

I would have hoped that everything should have settled down by today.

Another point is to check whether the bypass is open or closed. It can be beneficial to open this more to enable the system to overcome this air lock problem as it will generally allow the boiler to stay on longer. Obviously return it to its original setting once sorted.

Opening the bypass will do squat if the guy had a blocked feed which it sounds like he does.

Thanks shray
I will try everything you have mentioned
And the valve is definitely blowing
Air out quite powerfully too
Thankyou again got the information
I'll see how I go now
