Illegal Gas Fitters

i bet it costs customers far more with all the botched jobs by registered engineer part changers

Typical half arsed legislation from the " government" of little britain

" The cost of fixing botched work done by illegal gas fitters is costing customers up to £100m a year, according to the Gas Safe Register."

The cost of being ripped off by registered gas fitters costs cutomers up to £750m a week.

And 74.6% of statistics are made up.

What is puzzling is that it stated that the fitter was not qualified for LPG and this was the main part of the HSE's procecution BUT considering the problem was one of Carbon monoxide spillage due to an ineffective flue then even with his Nat Gas Qualification he should have known how to properly test fluing & Vantilation as this is covered in the Core ACS Assessment!!

The whole thing is a big Joke!!

And all this proves is..................................

Kevplumb has lost the plot.

how do you work that out mick ???

what it proves is that all of the above has exactly F**k all to do with plumbing or central heating

it should be in general or misc

Quote " It is a legal requirement for gas engineering businesses and individual fitters to be on the register.

Might be a play on words here, but,, BG don't let their engineers/salesmen join the GasSafe register. Yet when they are out there fitting/repairing/ advising that you need a brand new boiler:wink:, they are surely an individual (who just happens to work for BG). Who actually checks their work? Does BG send someone out to every job to check it has been done correctly?
I don't think so.

PS, a plumber friend of mine was Corgi registered but couldn't afford to join Gassafe for a few months. Did this affect his ability to install and work on gas appliances? He didn't suddenly forget everything he'd learn't over the years, but according to the letter of the law, he couldn't work on appliances until he became gassafe reg.

joinerjohn; all the bg engineers are GSR, what we are not allowed to do is register as private individuals to work on the side.

I take this 100 million figure with a pinch of salt , some have a vested interest , generally finacial to taslk up or exagerate , in order to justify there quango come pencil pushing jobs & inflated salarys !

If they want to do something useful , apart from volunteering for mine clearance whilst wearing snow shoes , they should investigate the rip off perpretated on the installation industry & joe public by boiler manus & there inflated price of spares , or the c**p products they dump into the market !!

I suppose some could argue that BG engineers are not gassafe registered. Their name will not appear on the register at all. It's BG that are registered.
Put another way, If you were to sub contract to BG, they would expect your name to appear on the gassafe register, yet as an employee of BG, your not allowed to get your name to be on it..
Honestly seems to me to be a case of double standards all round. Your either gassafe registered in your own right or your not. It should never be the company that you work for that's registered, it should be the individual.
What's to stop BG setting me on as a trainee and after 6 -12 months letting me loose on boiler servicing? I'm not registered, but the company is. Hmmmmmmmm

A B G engineer still has a gas safe card with his/her name on it and they are on the register as an employee of British Gas.
Also alot of big companys/Housing ass audit thereselfs mainly either through there own managment or external auditers.
