Imperial Gas Meter, convert to Cubic Metres?

My mother has an old Imperial meter which records in cubic feet.

I noticed from her recent gas bill that they are calling the readings metric units

from the look of the meter readings, I think the old meter might record hundreds of cubic feet, who knows if this is right?

and how can I work out how many metres of gas have been used, from the imperial meter?

however, they are calculating 31.66 kWh per unit on the meter, whereas my own (metric) meter is calculated at 11.05 kWh per cubic meter

so it might be that they are charging the correct amount, but incorrectly describing them as metric units

For example (pasted from the last bill) they say:


30 Jul 2008 - estimated 1429
05 Oct 2008 - estimated 1549

= 120 metric units over 68 days

Gas units converted = 3800.61 kWh used over 68 days

Usage charge First 499.00 kWh x 7.115 p = £ 35.50
Next 3301.61 kWh x 3.561 p = £ 117.57

They used to call 100 ft³ a "Unit" of gas.

100 ft³ is equal to 2.832 m³

Multiplying the 31.66 by that volume almost gives a correlation. However there is also a small pressure correction they apply and that may explain the slight difference.
