Its possible that my gas meter & my neighbours maybe labelled back to front .So weve been paying each others bills. Can check which ones run when the gas is on or off in each others flat, but there are others in the block of flats, so they could be turning on and off at same time.We both have different suppliers as well.Guess my neighbour will check with his supplier and get them to check the meter. How will this all work?If I work out how much I owe my neighbour an pay him then my supplier could then charge me on top.Bit of a nightmare situation.Maybe I should just wait until my supplier contacts me.

If your neighbour`s paying your bills then turn up the heating & Jacuzzi & start walking around in your undercrackers.
when you have finished with that Bong pass it over you Daffy Bas*tard.

Turn your meter off   either your cooker don't work or some ones going to be knocking on the door.

My neighbour is the one who raised it with me.I have the meter number on my bill for my flat.He thinks that the meters are for the wrong flats so that would mean the meter number on my bill would be incorrect to.

As DIY said, turn your meter off and see who gets hypothemia  You get the picture... If your cooker / boiler has no gas, then feel free to tel your neighbour that he is quite mad and the can of spam that he carries round with him is not an atom bomb  .. If however you still have gas, then get on to NG and kick yourself for not using more gas

How would it work with pricing? Can my suplier legally charge me after a year in the property as they have been giving me the wrong bill for this amount of time? Also can I get them to string the extra bill I owe out over a long time?

Don't worry about that until you know whether they've been doing it. I think it more probable that your neighbour is mistaken.

Up to 6 years, but you may be due a credit. If you owe them, time to pay would be reasonable, it may have been their mistake.

I knew a private landlord who let out other rooms in his house with each room having its own metered supply.

He worked their meters so that they was paying for his gas!

That's right, quite often you will communal radiators (stairs/landing) run of tenants heating

I once went to do an LSC for a Landlord.

The EC would not turn off the gas at all!

I discovered that two meters supplied two flats BUT both supplies were paralled somewhere. I was not paid to discover where which was probably under the floor somewhere.

The Landlord thought that when the flats ware converted the installer had fed the second flat from the first on a temporary basis to enable him to test the boiler but that link was never removed!

i would be careful turning off other meters, check carefully if the reading is moving (proving something is on, SOMETHING COULD BE A COOKER with no FFD, or appliance with faulty FFD meaning YOU have caused a gas leak) nobody in, you turn the gas back on after identifying meters, then BOOM. even if the meter dial is not moving it could be piloted it goes out and doesn't shut properly, or electronic ignition timed to come on at the time you are messing with the supplies and the boiler goes to lock out and the unsuspecting owner gets a guy out and gets a bill.
IF you want to identify the two meters you need to look at all the meters and make sure there is no comsumption on any of them, turn on heating in both houses identify two meters now using gas and switch them off one at a time to identify which is which. sorry to waffle on but it is important you don't unintentionally cause a major problem

Thanks for your help.Problem the supplier will have is that if they want to charge me for the other meter is proving who's supply is who's supply. We live in blocks of flats.Their is a question over mine and my neighbours meters, but say we turn them both off thn turn one on,its not a true test unless you are able to knock them all off(flats) and then bring each one on individually. How theyll do that I don't know.I've just left it that tmy neighbour should get his supplier out and have the meter checked. If my supplier does contact me and say they have been charging me for the wrong meter then I'll ask why they think that and what tests they have done in order to establish their outcome. My reading is half what my neighbours is so, I'll get hit with a nasty bill I guess.

just a thought on this one, both gas bills must have previous and current readings of the value of gas used, to work out the bill, so what are the readings on the meters you can see, you might be able to work out which is which from that

I said it once and I'll say it again turn your meter off, either you still have gas or you don't. rocket science don't think so.
