Hi,

I have two windows at the rear of my house and want to brick up half of each and knock through between so I create a single larger window.

Do I need to get a structural engineer round to spec up the new lintel?

It's a 1930s 2 bed semi and the floor joists run parallel to the wall the window is going in. Walls are solid brick.

I was just going to get a heavy duty Catnic and put it in but not sure if the BCO will refuse to sign off without calcs.

Cheers,

Not if you use a suitable standard lintel from any of the manufacturers

No need for a HD one either, standard duty will do
