Insulation over downlighter enclosures...

In the bathroom upstairs I have JC94010 IP65 fire rated downlights, when I installed them I built plasterboard enclosures with 1.5 times the manufacturers minimum spacing around the light. Each box has a couple of 20mm holes drilled in the side for a bit of ventilation.

I'm just about to insulate the loft with 170mm of top up insulation, am I safe to put this over the top of my enclosures? I'm pretty sure its ok but i thought I had better check with you guys...

The other thing up there is a Aqualisa Quartz pump, any of you seen one of these insulated up when wiring one in? I was thinking of building a box out of celotex around it?

You are fine to cover over those boxes.
And yes, do box the Quartz rather than lay insulation directly on top, I'm sure that would cause problems.

Is there really no way you can remove them and install something which actually works?

Seal those holes up, and seal the boxes to the ceiling, and you'll be fine.

Sheds, My god you are boring. The Op fitted them so he/she must be happy with them. There probably isnt a native tribe left on the planet who doesnt know what you think about downlighters. Some people like them. I inherited some in my bathroom when I moved in 3 years ago and I would like something different but I dont go banging on like a stuck record.
