Insulation Resistance for domestic appliances

Going to do some PAT testing for the first time tomorrow.

Read through the COP,not really a great deal of info about the practical side of testing I thought, £35 as well...

I am a little wary of the Insulation resistance tests, as I don't want to damage anything.

I won't be IR testing IT equipment i.e computers phones, faxes and the like,

Its a domestic property so things like stereos, radio's, fridges, coffee machines, that sort of thing I am a little unsure on.

I'm thinking anything with electronics inside from a alarm clock to a computer is best not to IR.
Problem is though that even my little fan heater has a digital display, so does that rule that out..

Also Will testing at 250 do any damage.
