insulation test

Not being an electrician could somebody please explain what/why causes the failure of the insulation test, dont know if it's relivent dut we have just had the walls dry lined.
It was the sockets down stairs that failed according to the test sheet.
Only ask as I wasnt home when we had inspection done & the missus didn't know what to ask but she has arranged for some work to be done.

Depends upon which circuit has failed.
A little more information would help.

If the cables were run in the cavity then that could contribute to an existing exposed conductor being brigged by insulation.
Also if cable are unsupported (as they would be in the cavity) then the insulation may have parted over time.

From what I remember of the rewire done some 13 years ago the cables drop down the wall from the fuse box in the plaster to first socket, then go back up the wall then go across between ceiling & first floor drop down wall behind plastic capping (that I fitted prior to drylining the walls)it was loose behind wood panneling to socket 2 then back up wall across to socket 3 via the ceiling again then the rest of the socket cables are run under the suspended floor in the front of the house the cables are hanging down between sockets & touching the ground under the suspended floor, cable then goes back up the wall from socket in dining room through ceiling into fuse box, have got the floors up to replace the boards so have just followed the cables around down stairs.

could be a faulty cable or even a nail thru a cable. what were the readings?

Sounds to me that damp has corroded the insulation on the cables in the cavitys.Have you had the walls done because of damp?

that sounds wrong. something is goin on there. if phase/earth is .35, and neutral/earth is .5, then phse/neutral can be +200. id expect about .85 (phase/neutral will also connect theu phase, neutral and earth, givin low reading on all)

the neutral/earth reading is low, and is borderline but phase/earth is too low. are you sure you unplugged eveything, and not just switched them off (i.e surge protectors for PC etc) if you just switched it off, this could explain the readings and appear to be a fault
