Intergas Boiler Service

Been that way since 1998, doubt they’ll change it yet.

You can have a gas safety check and a service (appliance dependant, eg boiler). The former is more like an MOT and the latter is a service as per mi’s.

The manufacturers' instructions stipulate service intervals and their extent.

These should be adhered to but companies like Homeswerve choose their own methods, which fall short and often lead to warranty repair issues when manufacturer is called out.

Had my intergas rapid+ serviced by intergas, they changed various seals, I think they did the heat exchanger one which is a huge o ring, size of a cushion!

The engineer mentioned that a prevous service hadn't replaced the seals. (plumber did it) Think intergas do a more through job personally.
From memory it was £100.

Hi Mr Chibs, in future I will just get Boiler breakdown cover and get a local gas engineer to do the service. It seems that when these companies throw in a free service, it's a check up.

Intergas, who make the boiler have in-house engineers who would properly service as per their own mi’s.

Does that include the two in-house engineers that we're both put through their gas by a friendly manager despite never having worked on plumbing or gas before? They were both working in the warehouse before they became 'engineers'.

Or the ones that were caught running a turn off league where they gave themselves points for every boiler they managed to find a reason to condemn and awarded themselves medals at the end of the week?

Its now £150 for Intergas to service your boiler and the staff have been told to try and upsell. Far better to find a decent local independent guy

Ok, you have inside knowledge

This seems to be the norm. Everyone offers a free boiler service with some kind of Homecare policy and we all know we don't get anything for free.

Blimey, times have changed. When I joined this forum, it was for advice for a new boiler. It was all Intergas, Intergas, Intergas. Only 4 moving parts. Can’t go wrong. It was all being pushed by someone called Dan something or other with a handful of loyal supporters/followers (Was he on a commission or something?) He was their God. According to them, Intergas was the best thing in boilers and if you didn’t get one, you were a fool. Nowdays, you hardly ever hear them mentioned except for complaints or problems!

The tech and engineering is sound imo.
The (UK) management is not.

There were several people on here that promoted Intergas including me.

In fact I worked for them and was responsible for the UK adopting the priority hot water system that was one of their main USP along with the heat exchanger.

As D says the boiler was very good, the basic design hasn't changed since 1996 and it's hugely reliable.

Sadly the UK management were corrupt and dishonest and the attitude passed on to many of their direct labour engineers who it appears will now do anything to deny genuine warranty calls so they can turn them into chargeable repairs.

I've also been told that they are now cutting merchants out and selling some boilers directly to installers and it is rumoured that one major supplier has already decided to send all stock back and not deal with them anymore.

The biggest boiler sales years were around 2015/16 where they sold getting on for 20k units a year which was a decent increase but way below the 300kish that Ideal boilers sold.

From what I'm told annual sales are now below 6k and the boilers that were installed in the glory years are all coming out of warranty. They still have years of life left but because installers have no confidence they are just recommending something else.

They are currently going through some kind of deal with Atlantic group who also own Ideal, I don't know for a fact but my guess would be they will take over the warranty for the legacy boilers and the brand will quietly be dropped although there is a rumor that Ideal may bring out a boiler with the Intergas heat exchanger.

So Dan and the rest of us were both right and wrong. The boilers were great but killed by the people that were supposed to promote them...

Hi Razor, would you recommend Intergas Boilers, i hadn't heard of them before I moved into my house 5yrs ago and my daughter's house had one when she moved in 12mths ago? They must still be popular with some installation companies.
