I think everyone (individuals and organisations) who earn should pay a fair amount of tax based on their income and yes, it's all subjective as to what fair is. I don't subscribe to people having to pay a ever higher % because they earn more and tbh I'm not surprised many of the truly wealthy will find (hopefully legitimate) ways to reduce their tax burden. If you're PAYE less chance to do so. If I create a hugely successful business that employs many and has a positive knock-on effect for the surrounding economy, why am I rewarded by being shafted for tax? Some of the property taxes also frustrate me. Ah, you bought your property for £180k x years ago using your hard-earned and paid a mortgage for 25 years. It's now worth £950k? You're selling it? We'll take a significant wedge off your profit in tax, thank you very much. Where does this tax go? Oh, to fund various stuff, including propping up people in society that are lazy sods and haven't worked a day in their puff.'

Not an owner-occupier main house to live in.

If you invested in gold bars, or stamps, or shares, and made a capital gain on sale, would you pay tax?
