Is there a leak?

Looks like I'll have to remove the concrete bit by bit to find out where it goes. Tried digging a hole at side of house exactly where stopcock is in kitchen and got down a meter and still couldn't find where it went in. Didn't want to dig too big of a hole incase I caused some damage etc.

if the kitchen is at the back of the house it might run under the hall and out under the front door.

the braided hose should not be attached to anything except when you need to top up the boiler pressure (which should be very infrequent)

Kitchen is at the side of the house but seeing as all the neighbours main stopcocks are at the front You will probably be right and it runs through the house to the front before it exits etc.

It does have an isolation valve on it so I'm assuming once it's at the right pressure it gets left in the off position. Any idea what the pressure should be roughly?

The central heating system has been drained down including venting the pressure from that big red cylinder jobby

whoops, sounds like you might have emptied the air from your expansion vessel. I would recommend draining your heating system, then using a foot pump to pressurise the "big red cylinder jobby" to about 0.8bar. Then fill the system to 1-1.5 bar. Then disconnect the braided hose to make sure the valve is not passing.

Well the leak has finally been sorted. It was in the pipe leading upto the house from the outside stopcock. Just had a new 25mm supply pipe run into the house and plumbed into the house feed. Yay! no more constant hissing from the pipes. Only problem now is I'm so used to it hissing I probably wont be able to get to sleep now. Should have made a recording of it just in case :D

I presume you took mickg's comment on board. Or is that you now asking why my boiler is loosing pressure?
