Is this normal with dry-lining back boxes or is mine broken?

Drill small hole side on through the yellow into the white and fit a self tapper then that lug wont go anywhere.
Use flat head screw if possible not to snag the cable when pushed back

I don't use them any more, I found they cut into the PB and sometimes pull out - far more so than plastic versions.
I certainly like the spring idea there, it must make life easier I would think.
I was not aware of these products so today I have learned something new to me.
The Appleby boxes "lock" the plastic screw holder part in place when the box is fitted to the board correctly but if installing after the board has been skimmed they dont but still usually hold tight enough to keep the holder forward.
PS. I have heard rumours that Appleby are stopping production of their range of back boxes. And Screwfix have had them on clearance recently.

Crabtree, Volex and Britmac have gone too, as Electrium have decided to concentrate on producing only electrical power distribution products.

Also, "pointy"* screws help. Flat ended screws are more fiddly to get started, so more chance of pushing the wings back.
* Many nicer screws have a smaller unthreaded tip which makes it a lot easier getting them started - the tip goes in the hole separately to getting the thread started. Hard to describe, you'll know it when you see it.

Yes , back in the day Crabtree sockets and MK sockets were considered the best two I reckon.Yes. Death of a great brand.

Crabtree switched sockets were DP switched whilst MK logic were SP switching only, MK had sharp corners whilst Crabtree were rounded.
Crabtree were chunkier so MK were quite slim in comparison.
I preffered Crabtree to MK but I was not in the majority.
Volex were crap. their loop in ceiling rose was a choc block with a cover on it, real crap.
Ask at wholesalers and returns of MK stuff were high.
MK recent years looks very good but I still not trust them.
