I guess this is meant for someone just renewing their existing sockets etc.

Anything else would mean RCDing the circuits to comply with the 50mm depth issue and that usually means a new CU.

But why say its a wiring kit? There isn't any 'wire'. But there are back boxes, Also no grommets

It acedemic anyway- Screweyfix says out of stock for delivery, and all my local SFX shops have none.

I brought some of these, there were a pile of them in the electrifix bit of sf and I asked how much they were - make us an offer they said as they are being discontinued - £15 each box is what I paid and that is a bargain just for the backboxes alone if you add them up. However although I normally always fit Crabtree I have seemed have used them up given them away to other trades and put them in rental properties where landlords have asked for the cheapest. So it was good business.

I think they have gone now though.

Yep, but when I was stuck for a 45A shower switch, it was handy to have one with me

I used to buy cheap carp from Screwfix for the very jobs Martin describes.

At other places, I used to pay 69p for a double socket, 69p for a switched spur and 27p for a 1G switch.

A lot of my gear came from here... http://www.abmelectricaldistributors.co.uk/ ...used to pick it up on regular visits down south.
