Time Netty eased off the general destruction, I reckon. Hamas and the , er Gazans? - have got the message. Does Israel have the numbers to use infantry (& tanks etc) to go from one end of the strip to the other finding and destroying the tunnels? ( How do you deal with 300 miles of tunnels - Expanding foam? )
Is Hamas really a secret organisation or does the populus really all know where they operate from?
I have doubts it would work; unless the Israelis kill everyone, Hamas will survive. Doing that would bring in other combatants.

The populous obviously do know but really are powerless. In a poll this year 70% of Gazans want control handed over to a Palestinian Authority away from Hamas.
An election is unlikely, Hamas are so deeply routed that as you say, unless you kill everyone, Hamas will survive.
Without any signs of a ceasefire Israel will eventually lose public and International support.
It's messy, very messy.
Hamas are not the military wing. They're the political side. Like Sinn Fein and IRA. Sinn Fein present the political argument of the IRA, Hamas present the political argument of the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades.

Wrong side. Hitler and his Hamas bedfellows want(ed) the total destruction of the Jewish people. There is nothing more racist than that.
Was listening to clips of Christopher Hitchens last night and he made the following observation.
If Hamas laid down their weapons there would be a basis for a long term settlement. If Israel laid down their weapons then Hamas would move in and kill all Jews, as per their stated God backed aim. Hardly equal outcomes.

USA has designated Hamas as a terrorist oprganisation. It's hardly likely to publish a report showing support for Hamas.
I can immediately see another rpblem with the methodology:
"At least 500" people were interviewed in each of Gaza, West Bank and Jerusalem.
Jerusalem has less than 400,000 Palestinians, compared to 3,000,000 in the West Bank and 2,000,000 in Gaza. So the opinion of those living in Jersalem has been given extra weigth. That could have been 500 in Gaza and the West Bank, and 1,000 in Jerusalem.
The poll should have been weighted by popul;ation, at least.
The same can be said about the opinions of other Arab countries, it should have been weighted by population.
This alone illustrates the amateurishness of the pollsters.
Then there's the validity of a face to face interview compared to a secret ballot, especially in such a toxic political scene.
Then there's the methodology of how the interviewees were selected to interview, by age, gender, etc.
The Poll was commissioned by employees of the The Washington Institute for Near East Policy.

The first thing they did upon creating the state of Israel was to move Palestinian people out.
There's no guarantee of a fair settlement if Hamas did surrender.
Israel, by its policies and actions want the whole of the Levant. There is nothing more racist than that.

No guarantee no, but I would hope that pressure would come even from the US and UK, and others, if that were the case.. It is too easy for Israel to claim they are fighting terrorism and a group who want to eradicate them. Israel don't have a stated aim of eradicating Palestinians. There is a huge difference.

The way I see it, they could just live side-by-side, in whatever you wanted to call the place.
Most plebs on either side probably would do too.
Trouble is, the ruling classes wouldn't want that.
And, as is inevitable with human beings, someone will get robbed / burgled / stabbed / shot.
And, the ruling classes will use it as a rallying cry, to kick off on "the other lot".
The UK and US has shown little influence over Israel's response to the October 7th attacks, and Netanyahu has said 'it'll be a long and difficult war' - suggesting he's going to continue with these assaults while his political survival is at stake. He already tried to pass the buck for the attacks on the Defence Minister, Gantz, but had to delete the tweet after complaints from his supporters.
What happens after the dust settles is uncertain but Netanyahu will have to accept much of the blame and take the consequences.
Why do you think Palestinians refused to leave the Gaza strip into Egypt 'for their own safety' - because they knew the Israeli's wouldn't let them back and likely would annex the territory, claiming it to be the only way to stop Hamas inflicting further loss of Jewish life.

Let's face it, there was nowhere to go.
Yes, again I think it is too easy for Israel to take the high ground. Their spokesman said it again on R4 this morning, " Hamas want the destruction of the Jews and we have put up with it long enough" (or words to that effect).
