Following a couple of threads I've seen recently concerning the importance of issuing minor works certs, has anyone had wind of recent advice from the likes of the NIC & ECA?

That for a like for like change, a minor works is now considered unneccesary?

Of course, you can still complete one (and I probably will), but that they are not necessary.

Anybody else advised of this?

I've not heard anything from the NICEIC, but all the info I receive is second hand from my boss.

We still issue a MEW cert. as a matter of course for any alteration to fixed wiring, including a like for like replacement of a socket front or plate switch etc....

I was advised recently on the 2391 that you do not have to do any sort of testing or certification for a like for like change.

(Although everybody agreed they would at least stick an EFLI tester on a socket/light change)

Even if they're not necessary, I'll still do one. It will cover your back if there is a problem with an installation you have worked on, e.g. EFLI.
