It’s now been made illegal to vote against Trump

I don’t see the issue if the immigrants are illegal

Than any one aiding and abetting illegals to dodge the law should be guilty of an offence / crime

Simples really

Constitutional law, especially in the USA, is never simple!

I believe the following is the proper procedure. Several years ago the State of Tennessee passed a law saying that no local government can set up a sanctuary city. The local councillors in a city like Nashville may think that law is unconstitutional. So they might go ahead and pass a law setting up a sanctuary city in any event. If the State of Tennessee wants to challenge the legality of that sanctuary city, then the Tennessee Attorney General should start a case against Nashville in the relevant court. And after hearings and appeals, a higher court will eventually determine whether the sanctuary city is legal. That, I think, is the way it is normally done in a healthy democracy. Imprisoning your political rivals just for voting is what they do in places like Russia and Iran.

Then they need to simplify it, like many things in life. This is sort of linked to Musk's task, weed out the unnecessary and the waste.

We have these layers of bureaucratic GUFF with many folk on various gravy trains. Time for it to end.

Any evidence he was acting on behalf of someone else and/or had been coerced?

No one should be supporting policies that are protecting illegal immigrants. This is how we end up in these states of absolute limbo.

However strongly you feel about an issue, in a healthy democracy it is never right to jail opposition politicians simply for voting one way or another. I have tried to give some more reasons in the post above and to show how it is supposed to work.

Who's been jailed?

Nobody yet. This is brand new law. But any councillor who votes to set up a sanctuary city in Tennessee in future can be jailed for up to six years.
Then they shouldn't do that.

To keep the illegals out, or at the very least to make your country much less appealing, it can't be looked on as a soft touch by the immigrants themselves and/or the gangs who ferry them around the world.

This is a very different issue, though. Constitutional law is notoriously complex and cannot really be simplified. And disputes between legislatures are one way in which the law develops and is a very healthy part of our democracy. The UK had several disputes where our laws were found by the ECJ to be in conflict with EU laws. But there was never a threat that the MPs who voted for those laws would be jailed.

It's called democracy!

What are you blethering about? It was an example to demonstrate my wider point. If you don't think there are layers of unnecessary bureaucracy in law then, well, I don't know what.
