Mr Healey said he could not accept the settlement in the Defence Investment plan because it 'falls well short of what is required for... the country at this dangerous time'.

Starmer should have increased the defence spending as a priority as soon as he knew it was needed, he doesn't mind telling everyone that is what we will be doing then does absolutely nothing. At the moment we are in a desperate state and have been for years, yet we keep aiding Ukraine and putting ourselves at greater risk by not replenishing what we are providing. Our military is dwindling and becoming weaker through this osterity. It was in a state when I left the army and needed urgent investment, promises and words just don't cut it.

Public spending just can't be increased overall, as we need to reduce both taxation and borrowing.

Cuts need to be made to something, and Labour have proven that they're utterly incapable of this.

They'll limp on until the country goes bust or there's an election.

He’s a Bluarite through and through, as is Burnam. The timing and content of his resignation is an attempt to hole the PM below the water line so there is a smooth transition of power if Andy wins. People underestimate Kieth’s toughness and he still has the fight in him. Healys payback will probably be the House of Lords.

I've noticed before that you have really interesting political instincts! Have you ever been involved in politics in some way?

What are they spending the money on? Taxes are through the roof. Defence is a joke, it needs funding.

I mentioned this on another thread few days ago when somebody said we need an EU army.

FCAS, a joint European project with France, Germany and 2 others to produce a 6th generation fighter jet has been scrapped over lack of agreement between between the main partners.

GCAP, an agreement between UK, Japan and Italy to produce a 6th generation fighter by 2035 is on the verge of collapse seemingly because of lack of financial commitment by the UK, despite a treaty having been signed.

The long overdue UK DIP (defence investment plan) might be brought out ahead of the next NATO meeting. Some think it's been delayed simply because there is no money.

Oh well, we'll have to rely on America then.
