Hi,

I'm completeing an extention and I've found a number of joists which do not reach the end/back of the jiffy hangers. Some are as much as 15mm short!

The joists are hanging on a steel with a packed webbing. They are bedded in the block wall at the other ends.

Is that gap acceptable from a structural point of view?
Obviously we could rip them out and start again or would an mdf plate screwed along the length of the steel be ok to shorten the gap?

Many thanks

joe

They only have to handle the sheer forces so I don't see a problem. If you put huge weight in the centre of a joist it would break in the middle - not the ends.
