"Keyed" mains plug

You can get a version of the standard 13A plug + socket with a slightly smaller, i.e. more square, earth pin. The plug will fit any 13A socket, but a normal 13A plug won't fit in the special socket.

I'm not sure where to get them though (our scenery workshop has them to stop you plugging in your own power tools).

We tend to use these type non standard plugs / sockets at work.

Not one of the alternatives available in the UK, except the one davelx mentions, if he's right, fit the OP's bill.

One thing to think about is a lot of computer accessories use wall warts. If you really want to prevent plugging of other stuff into the computer supply you will have to consider how you will deal with these for example by using foreign imports or by screwing/locking them in an enclosure of some kind so the BS1363 sockets you use for them can't be used for anything else.

Still got a regular socket outlet on it though.

Mind you - no problem with Mrs Crappy plugging the hoover in - she'll be too busy out earning the money to pay for it.

How about a word in your wife's shell like and a sticker on the sockets???
That's a bit gender stereotyped - how do you know Crispin doesn't do the hoovering?

ha ha. A bit unfair really. She never does the hoovering, I bought a Roomba instead :D Best invention since.....

I'll keep an eye out for davelx option, that is exactly what I am after.

Some other nice options there too.

thanks
