We'd like a kickspace heater, which runs off the CH when it's on and can run off mains electricity when the CH is off.

Rads take up lots of wall space in a kitchen. These make a lot of sense.
Just make sure that if this doesn't come with a thermostat, that you get one and wire it in to control heat output in kitchen.
