No entirely, no, but many of us abstain from voting because there is no party that represents us. The system is rigged against us so that there never can be a party that represents us, therefore we need a different way of leadership. We were once a fabulously wealthy country until we had socialist governments. We need to reconnect with that glorious past and that can only be done by removing our political class in its entirety. I stated earlier that the monarch is the highest political authority in the country, but he / she never makes use of that power - and there would be trouble if he / she did. But if a popular, charismatic person were in the position of monarch, with a large chunk of the poulation in support, that could be changed.
So you want a monarch who is charismatic to wield power, but if they aren't charismatic, they shouldn't. How would you measure that? Is charisma the best way to choose who should wield the power?
And that will return our country to which great era? Victorian era? Edwardian? That would involve removing voting rights to millions of people. Or post war when people could afford to buy a house, and we had an NHS?

I can't think of a time we really want to go back to, as they all suck in some way.

Back when we were building council houses in abundance, so quite socialist (is that ok with you?). Although trade was all over the place in the 60s. It wasn't until we joined the EEC in the 70s that trade started to improve.

Don't really care about football.

Interesting fact.

What you omit to say is that this particular Wally was a cousin of Cromwell, so it looks like nepotism was at work even back then.

Blup

Absolutely -- then and probably throughout all of human civilisation. They were fair people, though. Edward treated Charles with a lot of respect (Charles' accounts of his care under Edward are well documented). His father - Richard - is buried about ten miles from my home, and he too was fair and generous to local people.

Have you got any data showing which policies taken up by subsequent Governments were created by think tanks and how many of those involved TB?
Already addressed, many times. Search "Andy11, Tony Blair".

Things are achieved in politics by those with charisma. Take Churchill, Thatcher and Blair - love them or hate them, they had massive followings and accomplished a great amount (Blair was so successful that every government since his has been "Blairite").

British politics isn't working, there is a huge establishment of politicians and their media followers who crop up all over the place with their malign influence. Changing the party in power will make no difference; changing the voting system will make no difference. The only other legal way would be Royal intervention. Our royals won't do it - Charles is fully on board with climate change etc. There needs to be another monarch.

Any era where we kept hold of our wealth.

This implies that the present day is always the best day there has ever been in Great Britain - you cannot be serious surely?

That would involve removing voting rights to millions of people.
It's an article of faith with some folk that absolutely everybody should have the vote. I think you should only vote if you are a contributor, not a taker - this is only logical.

One of the reasons I'm a Republican is because it runs in the family.

In the corner of the death warrant for Charles I is the signature of Edward Whalley, the fourth person to sign Charles' death warrant. That Edward is my grandfather fourteen generations back.
You keep name dropping. Are you in line to the throne somehow?
