Kitchen Extractor Hood - Preventing Backdraught

We get a terrible draught through our kitchen extractor which vents outdoors. We have tried various back-draught flaps in the duct and hoods on the outside, but to no real avail. In all cases, the wind blowing past the outlet on the wall seems to pull the flaps open and let in a draught at the same time.

Has anyone found such a device that actually works or an extractor hood that has works in such a way that it prevents draughts by design?

Backdraft shutter work fine if your doesn’t it’s likely not fitted correctly.

It is fitted as per the instructions. You can hear the flaps being lifted as the wind blasts past the outlet, and then falling back into place when the gust stops again.

So air moving past the outlet may lift the flap but if it drops then it prevent backdraft . So is working.

You say flaps so I think you have the sort that looks like a miniature venetian blind. They are notorious for rattling but it will stop soon, when the flaps break off and blow away.

I favour the cowl vent which has a single large flap protected by a weather cover.

As JohnD says cowls are preferable to the other type, but even with these you may need to add a weight to overcome some weather scenarios.
