I recently moved into a house which has a modern consumer unit.

However the labels of the various switched do not marry to the circuits.

Are there any specific rules I must follow to label a consumer unit?

I was thinking of numbering the various switches and then having a list on a laminated card next to the unit with detailed descriptions of the circuit functions. e.g. downstairs sockets apart from left hand side of kitchen (yes really they come off a different circuit!!!)

I have tried google but with no avail.

Thanks for any input

Sounds good to me.

MCBs / fuses are usually numbered with fuse number 1 being the closest fuse to the main switch.

This is normally left to right on new CUs, but some older CUs will require the numbering to go from right to left.
