laminate flooring?

I have had a phone call from my sister in law, who intends to fit laminate flooring to her dining room. The question she asked me was " Is there a correct way round to lay the boards. I.E should they be laid along the length or along the width of the room?"
My answer..... "Dunno!" but I know some people who do.!
She is intending to lay this on the original 'Marley' type tiles that are there currently, and I believe it is a solid concrete floor.
I advised her that they should probably be laid perpendicular to the imaginary joists.
So, am I right?
Is there a correct way round? or is it purely asthetics?
Your input greatly appreciated.

There's no right or wrong way of doing it, I always do it length way, tend to make the room bigger !

I asked the same question a few weeks back, in the end I laid them, to make the cutting & fitting easier, which was across the room but running with the original floor boards. I am pleased with my efforts, they look very good.

Laminate flooring should be laid the length of the room. Sometimes the light source (windows, patio doors) to the room is on the width, therefore the flooring should be laid this way because when the light shines through windows, patio doors it will highlight more joints. If laying a laminate on to a concrete floor you should lay a (DPM) first before any underlay to prevent moisture damaging the floor If my ramblings are not too clear let me know.
