Have just moved into a new place with a Halstead Quattro combi boiler & pressurised (sealed) CH system. Noticed over the weekend a couple of drips on the carpet undeneath a lockshield valve on one of the rads - seems to be coming from the spindle. Have not tried tightening the gland nut up yet (total DIY newbie, knowledge increasing daily!), but will try this. If this doesn't fix the leak can I remove the gland nut without water spewing everywhere  ? (System at 1bar cold, about 1.6bar hot).

Many Thanks!

Thanks Kev, will give it a whirl.

Incidentally, the other valve is a TRV... when these are fully closed are they "really" closed - i.e. can I just turn it off and it's not gonna open by itself :?:

if it has a "closed " position no
wouldnt worry too much just put an old towel under the valve
you are OK theres no soap in it (geordie joke) ;)

The lockshiels valves that leak are the cheap and cheerfull ones, You can buy better ones that have o rings on the shaft that last for years, Tighten the gland nut and put a dummy cap on there to stop people tampering, do not rotate the shaft just incase the system has been balanced properly.
