Small point - Should that not be "The man..."?

Main point - Should not the reverse be the case?

My understanding pleading guilty can knock some years of a sentence, so pleading not guilty and being found guilty which he will be will mean a harsher sentence.

Say you go to court for robbery the maximum you will face is 7 years. 1/3 of that will be knocked off for pleading guilty and another third for good behaviour. If you play cards right you serve about 2 years or less.. that's the jist of my understanding of it.

I believe the required phrase here is "innocent until proven guilty". It's the principle upon which our legal system is based

She didn't specify, but you can tell her intentions from her choice of assistant.

Or maybe, just maybe, she didn't look at the colour of her assistant's skin or the way she dressed when she employed her, but instead focused on her ability to do the job required of her, like any normal civilised person would do?

He might have been, but denying a person a right to trial and finding them guilty on the basis that someone says they've seen that person do something goes against the principle of fairness in law. He might also be not guilty on the grounds of diminished responsibility

When I say observed doing it - is it not the case that he was arrested at the scene after doing it.

Quite possibly but such decisions are not made at a trial.

Of course, there is another thought about Jo Cox's death... She took one for the team. Is it not possible that Remain were so desperate to discredit Vote Leave that they set up the guy to bump her off, causing the masses of undecided to be so shocked that a guy with anti immigrant views could do such a thing to a young lady with a family that they would move to remain. That would make a guy who to a layman such as me would appear to have mental issues as great a victim as Jo Cox herself..

I attended her memorial service in my town and was shocked to see that every opportunity was made to turn what was supposed to be a memorial into a political statement for Remain, several speakers wore Remain teeshirts and a remain banner had been put up..

Insanity and diminished responsibility are not the same thing. Also, the trial hadn't started yet
