Hi all. Just bought a old house where the wiring is old to say the least. I will be going for a rewiring job, but its not priority at the minute. Anyway, I had a broken pendant on the landing. I removed it, and I have never seen anything like it. It has two lives on one side and two neutrals on the other with two earths. Nothing like the modern ones you get. Anybody have any idea how I would go about replacing this? And a wiring diagram would be a great help.
Many thanks
Mark

Two switched lives to one side of the lampholder, and feeding a hall light?
Two neutrals to the other side of the lampholder, and feeding a hall light?

OR

one of those 'neutrals' is actually a switched live?

You need to get out more - or stay in more.

It has two lives on one side and two neutrals on the other with two earths.
What is unusual or surprising about that?

Nothing like the modern ones you get.
It would be if they were wired the same way.

Unless the other lights on the circuit do not work then, presumably, it is wired as it was before it was broken when it worked.
Copy it.

And a wiring diagram would be a great help.
You already have one.
