I'm replacing an old double light switch with a new one. I figured that I'd just take note of the wiring in the old one and replicate it, but the two don't have the same connections. The old one has three at the top (B, A2, A1) and three at the bottom (B2, B1, A). The new one has two at the top (L, L) and four at the bottom (L1, L2 / L1, L2).
How should I proceed?
On the existing one I have Red to 'B' and Black to 'A2' at the top, with another Red to 'A' and bridging to 'B2' at the bottom.

See if you can work it out:

One the old switch, dont look at the terminals as two rows. Look at them as 2 triangles. One switch has A terminals, and one has B terminals. There may be a moulded line to indicate the divide. The two switches are completely seperate devices.

On the new switch, you can see there are 2 sets of corresponding terminals for the 2 switches, as follows:

[code:1]OLD NEW

A B L
A1 B1 L1
A2 B2 L2[/code:1]

Hope this helps. If you connect it wrong, dont worry, all the wires there are lives, so you wont blow any fuses or make any bangs.

Thanks Steve and RF. I've figured it out from that. Unfortunately I've gone and mixed up my Reds. It seems to work anyway. Am I in any danger if I've got the two Reds the wrong way round, or would it just not work if I'd done that?

The red that goes to two terminals is the permanent live. The other one is a switched live, as is the black. It wouldn't be working if they were swapped around.
