light switch wires

during the reno i have a switch which i want to replace but the one my son have purchased has l21 and l22 terminal with a common. The old one have common L1 and L2. could i just have a confirmation of where to connect where. the switch will be metal so would it need the box connected to the switch with the green earth wire? There is no earth wire visible so will i have to buy a new switch, or wire?

You cant use a metal switch if you dont have a earth.

thank you jurassicspark, yes i will be having this switch for temporaily as the other one was very hard to switch on it was old i will be changing when i find a plastic one.
