I have 2 reds & 2 blacks from ceiling. Ihve joined reds and blacks together and connected to bulb holder Fuse blows. One Red is live all the time even when switch is off. Is this a radial circuit?.How do I rewire. Thanks

pretty much every lighting circuit is a radial, although it's called "loop in", which confuses people into thinking it's a ring.

Only two cables probably means your light is the last light in the circuit.

Of course, you were sensible and noted what wire went where before you removed the old light! ;-)

But if not, look at the sticky "For Reference" topic at the top of this forum. If, after that, you're still confused, search - because this has been talking about more times than i've had hot dinners.

Sorry Im astill confused.I only have 1 2 way terminal block, 1 live all the time ,2blacks which may be neutrals or return from the switch and 2 earth. The wiring was knackerd when I took it apart

Somebody help me before I strangle myself with the the light pullcord

FANKS

It's impossible to be certain without testing. But, if we assume that this is loop-in, and the end of the loop, and that this is not two way switched...

You have two cables. Each cable has a red and a black.

You've identified one of the reds as being permanently live. That is the mains supply. The other cable is the run to the switch.

You are wiring up the same as the dining room in those diagrams. The horizontal red, black, green lines are the cores from the permanently live cable. The vertical black and red (and earth core not shown for clarity, you must connect this), are the switch cable.

Now, you said you have only 1 2-way terminal block. That is not enough. You need a ceiling rose and pendant. They look like this:-

why? He might (/is probably) wiring up a new light which doesnt need a ceiling rose.
