hi i ve just installed an electric shower im sure that the cable is of correct size and everything seems to be ok but when i turn it on the lights in the rest of my house dim, i appreciate that this is probably not a problem but have had an electrical disaster in the past so am looking for assurance - anyone help?

its due to voltage drop. your shower is using so much current that the supply voltage drops, so your lights dim.

dont worry too much, about it or have a shower in the day

You'll often find exactly the same on a larger scale in some built up areas. I've got a UPS powering some of the equipment in my place and it monitors and displays supply voltage (and adjusts accordingly). Voltage dips at certain times of the day when power is being consumed (ie weekday evenings) and rises at times of low consuption (ie early weekend morings). As Breezer said, don't worry as long as the circuit is designed and installed correctly you shouldn't have a problem. You may even find it does the same thing but to a lesser extent with other heavier loads like kettles etc but it's not as noticable.
