Locks. Chubb v UNION ASSA ABLOY

The old-established Chubb company merged with Union many years ago. The company continued to make locks of Chubb design and market them under the Chubb name. Following numerous demergers, mergers and takeovers, rights to the Chubb name ended up being owned by a diferent company. The Union company is now owned by Assa Abloy and owns the designs and the rights to make the locks, and used to have a licence to use the Chubb name on locks of Chubb design. The licence to use the name has now expired.

However they are still made to the same design, in the same factory, on the same machines, by the same people as before the licence to use the name, expired.

Some people, including me, think it is crazy that the Chubb name, which was built up over many years as a lock and safe company, belongs to a company that doesn't make the Chubb designed locks.
