
Thanks, that the cable going into the loft light switch and then a cable comes out up to the light. So yes, what you say makes sense!To my eyes that looks to be a switched pair, so no, your idea would not work. You need to find the live pair used to loop-in feed the lighting circuit, if that is the way the lighting is wired. If no junction box is apparent, the live pair can be picked up at the nearest ceiling rose. Or if no room at the terminals, trace the live pair back and insert your new junction box at a place to suit your alarm feed.

Sorry you already said that didn't youIt’s got a wire in ….and out …. Take front off , if it’s got either two blacks or blues in a connector you can pick up a feed from it
Why 1.5mm cable when most lighting circuits are protected at 6amp?Finally got it all wired up today to the lightswitch with permanent live. 1.5mm cable from switch to spur, then flex to panel.
