Loft trussed roof ideas

It's all good N all but I suspect everyone reading this is just thinking what on earth is the bloody point. I'd have sooner spent the cash on a holiday.

If I didn't do everything myself over last 9 months, that would be correct, I think I've spent approx £3k on this only plus you know, man needs a project.
I imagine paying someone to do it all, I'd need to sell a kidney first.
This was as budget friendly as it gets.

Well, then you do you and leave other people alone to do them? Guy wants to sit in his "ostentatious" loft storage room and look at the stars, leave him to it!

Each to their own, plus I can still afford a fancy weekend off and wife is extremely happy she has extra space in the wardrobe now. Happy wife, happy life
Re the silly roof light, that glass panel gives lots of light downstairs in the living room, considering that this was always a dark living room, its basically like having a second window here. I had it planned long before I've put the velux in.

Nice.
As a side note, velux do a range of stylights 550mm wide, which are designed to fit between standard truss rooves at 600mm wide. Which saves you having to make any structural alterations.

Tbh, its an excellent point, knowing what I know now, I'd most likely go for two smaller windows that would go between the trusses but it was one of these drunken evenings purchases, because reasons and then I had to take some of the ceiling down to even get it into the loft, it was also 50kg and rather hard to get in there, never mind actually fitting it into the frame. I've almost cried a little when it finally went in, two of us struggled mightily for 40 minutes and I got it in an hour before the rain.
Structurally that section though is now significantly lighter as the window probably replaced 20-25 tiles, each weighing 12.5kg. I think I have ~15 spare tiles and cut lots of halfs around it too.
Definitely not an easy job!

But of course that area of roofing was supported by 3 rafters and in essence it is now supported by 2 rafters albeit with lesser weight, hence why usual default method is to double up rafters each side of opening to give 4 rafters of support

Looking at pic in original post 1 I must have, not quite sure what along the shorter web means?

Both trusses rafters along with the trusses short compression webs were doubled.
Admittedly it's not at all clear from the pic in post 1, that said, I think that will be 4th or 5th time I've mentioned it in this thread, but just in case it wasn't clear enough, they were of course doubled

That makes it 5th or 6th time now
