London one of safest cities in the world

It's curious isn't it - what the facts are, how we make sense of them or not, and how that relates to our particular cherished positions - I very much include myself in this.
Here's a surprising piece from Fix the News - I'm sure someone will have the time to find the underlying research:

Isn't there a theory which says that the decline in violent crime tracks, with a delay of a few decades, the banning of leaded petrol?

Is this the same London whose murder rate was being compared to NYC
Just a little reminder of what was actually said for the hard of thinking or just plain dishonest.

So when was this comparison done, and what did it show?

Carrying out a comparison doesn't mean that, or make, the figures the same. I could compare the cost of office space in the West End of London with that in Melbourne, Australia. Doing that would not mean that London isn't over 6x the cost of Melbourne.

FFS, I really don't want to keep debating what was virtually a throwaway comment. It happened. It's Fact. If you have a problem with it, take it up with The BBC.

Some people need to get out a lot more.

We also have enemies within, spreading false stories and trying to spread disinformation and fear.

The City of London is encouraging top bankers, lawyers and executives to push positive messages about the UK to counter rising disinformation about crime that threatens investment in Britain.

The intervention comes amid a sharp increase in the amount of social media posts spreading fake or misleading news that is fuelling false narratives about safety in the country, including claims that the capital has become dangerous and lawless.

The government, police and cyber experts have already expressed alarm about the creeping spread of disinformation, but the City has now waded in amid fears the proliferation of negative social media is causing concern among overseas investors in Britain."

Good to see that this site is doing its bit to support the British economy.

Do you have a problem with this, which you want to take up with the BBC?

And some people need to do better research. I assume you're interested in the truth about 2018, as I assume you didn't cherry-pick a short, unrepresentative period of time with anomalies in both cities in order to score some biased, partisan political points off a Labour administration you hate.

According to New York’s figures, there were 295 murders in 2018. This yields a murder rate of 3.42 per 100,000 population in 2018.

According to London figures, there were 128 murders in 2018 in the London Metropolitan Police boroughs of Greater London, i.e. everything except the City. The Daily Mail claimed a total number of murders in greater London as 134, and the Telegraph also repeated this figure. This figure of 134 includes one murder from the City of London. I cannot account for the discrepancy between the 128 and 133 figures for the Metropolitan Police. However, assuming the higher figure of 134 murders as correct, the murder rate for London for 2018 is 1.52 per 100,000 population.

Some fools just don't understand basic English like 'was' and 'being compared to'.

What I said was accurate. I can't vouch for the accuracy of what other people write.

Himmy's getting his graphs out now.

Good to see that Reagan is grudgingly admitting that the London murder rate is less than half the New York rate, and he didn't really intend to suggest anything other than that when you compare the two, London is much better.

Shame it took him so long.

And some fools think that they can try and claim that "Is this the same London whose murder rate was being compared to NYC not long ago, or another one?" was not an attempt to deny the truth.

We can always tell when you realise you've lost the argument.

He started some irrelevant rambling about days of distant past, poor old gammon. Someone needs to tell him The Empire is no more.
