lowering a plug socket

Hi all.
I want to lower the plug sockets in the living room as they are a too high up the wall.
I've taken the fronts off them to see if there is any spare cable to pull down, but there isn't.
Is it possible to extend the cables? and if so how should they be connected, etc.
