Wow, that's a good price, but is it only for trade?
I doubt it
I am a householder not a pro
I fitted a Magnaclean to my old mum's heating system, which is open vented, 40 years old (the boiler is about 20) and had been neglected. It had a lot of sludge in it.
I drained and rinsed it first, then fitted the Magnaclean, then added Sentinel X400 (sludge loosening chemical cleaner) and got a LOT of sludge out. It is still collecting sludge now (after two years) but only a trace, not mugfuls.
It was dirty but had no blockages, and I am convinced that it is working well and is clean enough now, at a saving of some hundreds on a Powerflush.
If you can do simple DIY plumbing and have the tools and parts to hand, you should be able to drain, fit Magnaclean, and refill with chemical in a day with time to spare
Its not essential to have the system flushed before fitting a maganclean, it all depends how bad your sludge problem is.
The cost of a powerflush depends upon your system, but I'be be looking about 300-400 pounds incl vat & chemicals.
I;d question your system design, if its built up sludge within 5 yrs.
and just to throw open another discussion...
how about the magnaclean Twin Tech, same as the magnaclean, but includes an extra gauze filter to catch non metallic things
