Whats folks opinions on them? Are they worth it?

And how much are others charging to supply and fit?

personally i think they are overrated at what they are meant to achieve!

Good idea but over rated. They will generate a lot of work for us in the future when the plastic fails.

Mines been in and working for over a year with no problem.

Perhaps there's plumber and plumbers.

did you fit it without dropping it on your foot

shoot that was the h/ex

Magnacleans do what they are designed to do amazingly well. The build quality for the price is very poor; nothing that could save a penny has been overlooked.
As for price, judging by the quality of the product, it is far too expensive, but the working is impressive.
If any manufacturer, bar Ideal, will make a magnetic filter that leads the water around the magnet instead of over it, I will certainly try it.
The spirovent has a far better build quality, but as the water goes over a cavity with the magnet in it, rather than around the magnet, I doubt it is anywhere near as effective.

spirovents were being used long before some of you qualified, not only is it a good product IT HAS PROVED IT OVER TIME in the real world.the magnaclean may do a similar job but does not have the pedigree or build quality to do the job or last as long imho.

Spirovent build quality is way better than magnaclean, no comparison. Pedigree??? Ideal have been making boilers for a long time, need I say more?
As for the working of the 2 products, the strength of the magnetic pull is the product of the magnet, and the inverse square of the distance. Logic would suggest that when the main flow passes the magnet at a significantly greater distance, the working must be less.

The Chris Adey product was designed and marketed with a lot of effort and has totally taken over the heating market.

Unfortunately, the quality, particularly the early units, was not very good and there were a significant number of failures. Hopefully most of these have been ironed out by now.

The big failing of these is that they do not attract non magnetic dirt.

I deal with this by fitting a gauze filter washer ( BES ) on the output. I really dont know why Chris does not include this with his product.

Installers also have a lot to answer for! When a mag filter is fitted it is essential to include a cleaning regime. I suggest an inspection after one week and then depending on the amount of dirt found an ongoing program.

An annual inspection in totally inadequate until the system has been proved not to need it more often.

The only way to use a magnaclean is to keep the system clean, not to clean it.

I think once a week for a month, and then forget it for a 12month is fine.

The magnaclean twintech has the filters built in to remove non magnetic dirt.

Would fitting a filter in the outlet not in a worst case senario cause a blockage and overheat the boiler etc? The magnet in the magnaclean is desighned to not block the system.

An advantage of the magnaclean is that it has a fair sized container. If you manage to fill that up in between services, I think it would be fair to say the system needs flushing.
