Making doors out of acrylic - good or bad idea?

I wanted to make doors out of acrylic - say 40cm x 40cm.
These would be used on shelves or somewhere (where I need to be able to see what's inside).

I was thinking of using bolts where we need screws.

Good idea or bad?
Acrylic is brittle and and stand repeated closing and opening forces.
But... i thought this could be overcome if we use a kitchen door hinge - the open and close stress goes on the hinge?

Just a crazy idea.
Wanted some opinions.

Why not use toughened glass & get a glazier to cut/drill to your specifications (if possible).

itll be strong enough, however it will scratch easily and might get dusty as it tends to have electrostatic charge.

4mm toughened is your best bet, you can get special hinges that clamp either side of a hole.

Note that clear acrylic scratches and is brittle. But it is used to do what you are looking to do. To do what you were looking to do I would>> use "acrylic hinges" glued using "acrylic cement" to the acrylic door and screwed (through drilled holes in the Acrylic hinge) into (I presume) the wood frame of the cupboard.

Lexan is more expensive, but much tougher and not at all brittle like acrylic.
Or you could make the door with a metal/wood frame and have a large plastic window in it?
