Making radiator pipe shrouds from chrome pipe

Well of course you will be able to fit 22mm pipe over 15mm pipe.
Not necessarily.

You'll note the chrome pipe has an external diameter of 22mm (not an internal diameter). Therefore depending on the internal diameter, 15mm pipework may or may not fit inside this.

I didn't know what the internal diameter was for the 22mm chrome pipe, as plumbing is not my area, though the retailer informs me 15mm pipe will fit through it.

It might look a bit stupid having thick pipes going up to your radiator valves.

The ready-made ones you linked to fit snugly around the copper pipe.

I see what you mean, the chrome shrouds shown in the link have an 18mm diameter.

If I asked my original question with respect to using an 18mm diameter chrome pipe, how feasible is it to cut this without the chrome breaking?
I think you'll struggle to find lengths of 18mm chrome pipe. Aside from the expensive shrouds that you are keen to avoid.

They are, of course, designed to be cut down with a hacksaw.

I take it these covers are for cast iron column rads?

No they've tall vertical radiators. Though I've seen a radiator that someone had installed recently and it had unsightly white piping going up from the floor to the radiator. I read online about radiator shrouds, which is how I became aware of them.

Why not just use 15mm chrome pipe into the radiator valves? Shrouds seem like an unnecessary faff to me if you're going to be bringing new pipes up through the floor
So just connect 15mm chrome pipe directly into the radiator and bring this under the floorboards?

Can the installer then just connect 15mm chrome pipe up to the 15mm white pipe? I don't what the white pipe is, if it's usually plastic or if it's a metal also.

The chrome pipe tees into your flow/return pipes under the floorboards.

It runs straight up into your radiator valves.

I don't know what this white pipe is that you are talking about. Maybe a picture would help.

Using 15mm valves on cast iron column rads doesn't look very appealing.;)
Most re-production column rads use 1/2" tappings as opposed to the 1" used on the originals , 15mm tube through floor to the valve just don't look right....beefing it up with 22mm sleeves is a tad more appealing to the eye...:)

I'll see if I can get a picture at some point.

But as far as I'm aware the installer installed white coloured pipework under the floorboards which connected up to the original copper pipes and then brought this white coloured pipework up through the boards and directly into the radiator. I don't know anything about it, but I assumed possibly installers don't connect up copper piping (with a copper finish) to underside of radiators now and maybe this is why there is a market for radiator pipe shrouds.

Perhaps the white pipe is the flow/return pipe which you describe just brought up to meet the radiator.

Yep you've got the idea

Sounds like you need a new installer.
