Hi, I'm in a 9 yr old bungalow which is covered in Marley Modern grey tiles. Some of the tiles appear to be changing colour which i'm guessing is the surface wearing away.
These are the worst ones (see photos).
Other tiles are showing the same signs but a lot less severe.

Will this affect the waterproofing of the tiles and should I be worried or is it just natural wear & tear? Has anyone experienced similar? Thanks.

I think that's just weathering.
I didn't think it was growth.
Maybe I'm wrong so try some wet and forget.

We've had some brutal summers and rain.

Many hot countries paint roof tiles much to my mates amusement when the builder asked what colour did he want the roof painted.
Maybe in a few years if it bothers you to get yours done if they don't clean up.

Try cleaning though.
Post how that works out

I agree with Wayners: it looks like the top surafce of the tile has eroded. At 9 years I'd be having words with the builder

Thanks for your replies. When I look close up it does look like the top surface has eroded. A couple of other houses in the street look the same. I think I'll get in touch with Marley as there's meant to be some sort of guarantee on the tiles.

Hi Emma!
Whilst I agree the markings do look like lichen, it's curious that it isn't covering the entire tile - and the affected ones all look the same, i.e on the right side of the tile.
The tiles do look in good condition though, and for one I wouldn't be worrying about it but we'd be interested if your research gets anywhere.
These Marleys are very common around me, and they have been on properties for a long time......dead easy to replace too, if one gets broken!
Can I be the first one to mention your gutters could do with degunging?
Regards
John :)

Hi John, how are you? Yes the markings are very odd indeed. Maybe it's been a bad batch of tiles.
I've filled out a contact form on the Marley website & fired it off so we'll see what comes of it (if anything!)
Believe it or not I cleared the guttering in April. The photo does make it look gunky though .
Nice to hear from you and thanks again :giggle:
