Hi

My HP Compaq only has 1.43GB of free space out of 18.6GB - think this is causing a problem with the printer needing memory to print photos. how do I increase the memory ?

Thanks

Those figures are not how much memory you have left.
They are telling you you have a 20GB hard drive with only 1.43GB of space left for storage.
This in itself will cause problems and could be the cause of your printing problems.
A 20 GB hard drive is far too small for todays applications.

Trazor,

Can you increase the size of the hard drive or is it a case of putting my photos and music on an external hard drive

You can fit a new additional internal hard drive, or connect a USB hard drive if your computer has USB plugs

External hard drive is easy to connect, internal is more complex but if you're technically minded its relatively straightforward.

You can buy a new hard drive and replace your old one. You'll need to copy everything across from teh old to the new. The easiest way (but not the only one) is to use something like Acronis MigrateEasy

http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/migrateeasy/

(other disk imaging products are available).

Make sure that you buy that the new disk uses the same interface as the old one. This is almost certainly IDE (also known as PATA). There is a selection at

http://www.ebuyer.com/cat/Hard-Drives/subcat/3.5"-IDE-Hard-Drives

but check what you do need before you spend money

Only having 1.4Gb of hard disk space left will not cause printing problems. Something else is at fault, what exactly is the problem when you print?
