if a car or van can do 40.mpg should in be taxed lower, than one that can only do 25.30 m.p.g, but the lower mileage car has a better emissions result :?

Every few years the government change the way they apply tax especially to vehicles.
But whoever gets the mpg the manuafactures states for the test.

I am tempted to give the right answer and say yes but have decided to say no, the other right answer!

£35 tax per year - beat that

And I get 55 MPG, so if they do change it, i'll still be low

Steve what car are you driving, but we need vans so is it done in a van 8)

Ford Fiesta 1.4 diesel falls into the lowest emissions band.

Thise that have fewer MPG I guess are punished at the pumps. Some near us are now 100.9 for diesel. But why is petrol still only 96.9?

The lower your MPG the more tax you pay because of excise duty. The best way forward is to double the price of fuel and lower VAT on essentials for life. In that way those that drive small cars and do fewer miles will save all round.

the reason diesel is dearer, is trucks got cheaper tax after the strike in the early 2000s and petrol cars have been un-wittingly overpaying for us who use diesel cars ,the fuel companys try to keep it under a £1 for rhe last 3 years or so with this stroke  :)

joe the euro parlament have made it so hard to run any vehcile over 3,5 tonn that we now have more vands that ever running on the roads , :? plus with the revenue raised on fuel they (let on) that they want us to use our cars less, :? talk is cheap so why no tax it

No its not, that only hits those that need the car, rather than those that drive the big flash cars so you all look and say, cor I would like 1 of them.

Are you sure about that, what about when the boffins said diesel did less harm & the drive was for us to go diesel, the government lowered the tax.

diyisfun, yes in two of his bugets he put diesel up more than petrol we run trucks and vans so we thank the petrol heads,

It hits every mum's taxi and those that go shopping because they are bored. It would also encourage people to go to work by bus (which would be subsidised). It's not big flash cars that are clogging the roads - it's you and me (and immigrants).

joe 90, it would be better to teach the immigrants to drive without clogging up the roads ,no more tax please come up with a  that wont put up my motoring taxs, long live the car & freedomeeeeeee   if taxing it is all we've got we are in the shi# :?

I am very surprised and disappointed joe-90 that you chose to introduce immigration into this topic. Although I understand where your coming from, there are times, like now, when I get the feeling that you are skating on very thin ice! Your Xenophobic attitude has been adequately demonstrated via other topics and should have no place in this discussion.
